Training Course for Gynecologists and Neonatologists


On December 7-8 and 14-15 of this year, the Armenian Association of Neonatal Medicine organized a two-day training for obstetrician-gynecologists and gynecologists and neonatologists. The topic of the training course was Continuous Care when Providing High Quality Birth Assistance and Perinatal Care Services. Participating in the training course were specialists from Erebuni medical center, Astghik medical center, Erebuni polyclinic, Astghik polyclinic, as well as from the maternity hospital of Vedi and the medical center of Armavir.


Presented during the first day of the training were the following topics: definition of the concept of continuous care and its organization for women and newborns at medical institutions providing perinatal services of different levels; ensuring healthy pregnancy for mother and fetus; pregnancy risk groups, classification, description, determination of the degree of risks and cooperation of neonatologists and obstetrician-gynecologists as a component of continuous care provision; and organization of provision of effective care and medical assistance for women in childbirth that have fetus development disorders and/defects.

The topics presented on the second day included approaches of ensuring effective perinatal care and safe maternity; improvement of quality of birth assistance and neonatal services; prevention of the fetal distress syndrome and pregnancy management, women’s rights during childbirth, and opportunities for application of the WHO standards at medical institutions of Armenia.


This training course, which was unique for the participants, had been organized within the framework of the program on Improving Quality of Neonatal Care Services in Armenia funded by US Agency for International Development. The training series will continue: similar training will be organized for specialists of the republic’s other medical institutions on January 18-19, 25-26, and February 1-2 of 2019.
